Cow Parade Gains More Cows

AUSTIN -- Have you noticed those painted cows popping up around Austin? Another herd is about to make a moo-ve. It is part of a benefit for Dell Children's Medical Center of Central Texas.
It is "utterly" Austin. A herd of 45 brightly painted, sometimes tiled and occasionally kissed cows have popped up all over the city.

"It's a nice little change of pace,” said James Shook.

"I like the one on Lamar that says ‘I love moo’ and it's got all of the kisses on it,” said Betsey Bird.

A taco cow, a glow in the dark firefly one, and 24 others designed by local artists will soon head out out.

Crews are planning for a busy night of top secret installations starting at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The cows will all be in place by 7 a.m. on Thursday.

AUSTIN, TX -- It's an outdoor museum devoted solely to cows. Each one is painted by a different artist.
The statues are part of Cow Parade Austin 2011on display throughout downtown Austin until the end of October. Each one is hand painted with a unique design.

The cows benefit the Dell Children's Hospital's Superhero Kids program, which helps families of children battling cancer and blood disorders.

Robert Kotrola designed the cow named Moolah. He's a retired electrician who now devotes his time to art.

"The idea behind it is kind of a "Monopoly man." They wanted something similar to the Monopoly man, so that's what we came up with, and a few ideas back and forth, and that's pretty much, looks like the original...

UPDATED: 10:59 am CDT August 25, 2009

SAN ANTONIO -- The poster for the 26th annual Jazz'SAlive was unveiled Monday.
Patti Schermerhorn, the artist who created the winning poster, said that she wanted to capture the colors of San Antonio when she designed it.
"I sat out in Travis Park surrounded by lots of people who wanted to see what I was doing and did some panoramic drawings," Schermerhorn said. "I got inspired to put it all together so that it would add a bit of the festive color of San Antonio, the people and the whole event."
The event features national recording jazz artists in addition to regional and local favorites.
The free, two-day music festival which is sponsored by the San Antonio Parks Foundation and the city of San Antonio, is scheduled for Sept. 19 and Sept. 20.
