This is the third partnering with author, Stephanie SICIARZ in her delightful series. Her new book, Rum for the Pineapple Cup, hit the Amazon store in December of 2016. If you have not yet read the series, I highly encourage you to do so.
Island magic strikes again. Not the meddling mangoes or sketchy sea this time, but rather one Cora Silverfish, proprietor of Pineapple Jewelry and Gems. Forced to buy his wife Ms. Lila a last-minute birthday gift at Cora’s shop, Raoul Orlean, Head of Customs and Excise, finds himself entangled in Cora’s affairs, from Customs fraud to her connection with the criminal Curator of Oh’s Parliamentary Museum. Worse, her bewitching gemstones are turning Raoul’s world upside down: he begins to doubt his wife, his best mates, and even his favorite book at the library. When Raoul’s investigations into Cora and the Curator put in jeopardy not only those he loves, but the black-and-white philosophy he holds dear, too, Raoul must learn to make peace with...

The Making of a Masterpiece
Subject: Patti Schermerhorn, Texas Hill Country Feature Artist
By Spring Sault
Meet a consummate fine artist making commonplace Texas Hill Country sites, settings and even inanimate objects into kaleidoscopes of color. Patti Schermerhorn makes masterpieces from acrylic paint seem like a walk in the park. In fact, her ‘San Antonio Series’ includes just that – a walk in the park. The River Walk, to be exact. Patti has been working her craft since 2008 professionally, but over her entire lifetime personally. Growing up in Panama, the education system introduced her to art and artistry by way of its regular programming in pottery, drawing and all mediums of painting. Focusing on many different mediums, as she explains it, she enjoyed every single class and project, finding it serene, and continuing to this day to use art to clear her mind and take her away. Although that may have been where she got the original desire, her time in the Texas...

Patti grew up in Panama and has lived in San Antonio for the past three decades. Because both places are full of culture and color, they have been a big inspiration for creating her artwork. Her unique mosaic style is vibrant in color and happy in tone. She uses vivid color in all of her art pieces as she believes it truly sets a tone and movement creating passion in those who view it.

"My Caribbean Series is inspired by my frequent travels there. I love the bright colors of the Caribbean and it is fun to integrate them into everything from my version of a Sea Turtle to the houses that dot the hillsides."

On Monday, April 27, 2015, United Way Campaign Chair Craig Boyan unveiled the 2015 campaign theme and poster art, Changing Lives, created by local artist Patti Schermerhorn.
Influenced by the city around her, Schermerhorn’s art style is vibrant and full of texture. She paints with a signature mosaic, layering style. Her art symbolizes the pride we have in our city—past, present and future.
Just as United Way brings people together for the common good, Schermerhorn’s art also brings us together, sending a message of hope, touching hearts, and bringing color into what can be a very monotone period of struggle for some.

Art...just like life....should be colorful!” It is this simple, yet bold philosophy that fuels the creative fire that dwells within artist Patti Schermerhorn. Patti has been bringing her four-legged fur babies to our clinic for over a decade. During that time, she has certainly left her mark on each and every member of our team...but also, in our lobby! We are proud to display several pieces of her original artwork!
Patti grew up in Panama, and has called San Antonio home for
the past three decades. These vibrant atmospheres helped her develop her unique ‘mosaic’ style of painting, which is full of rich colors and bold forms. “Both Panama and Texas are so full of culture and color...”
Patti says “they have truly been a big inspiration for creating my artwork.”
While Patti enjoys painting a variety of subjects, some of our favorite pieces are from her “Peace, Love and Paws” series. These pieces focus on capturing the joy and love four-legged companions bring to us. In...
